Carpet Stains - How to Clean Your Carpeting Guide

Read our carpet stains guide, courtesy of UCM Carpet Cleaning Miami, to preserve your investment in the best shape possible for years to come. Using carpet as a décor is a popular choice for many households today. After all, carpet comes in a variety of shades, styles and color that will suit and complement even the choosiest designer's taste.

Carpets, being considered a major purchase, assure its owner of a naturally long life which can even be enhanced provided that it is kept clean and well maintained at all times. However, try as you might to keep your carpet looking immaculate, there's always a chance that it will get stained at some point in time. Good thing there's a lot of home stain removal methods that can be done to salvage the carpet.

Listed below are some of the most common carpet stains and ways to remove them:

Blood - a way to prevent blood stain from completely settling in is to act fast. Heat sets the blood stain so it's a must to use cold water to extract and rinse the blood off. Blotting it up with a clean white cloth or paper towel can do the trick; just remember to do it little at a time to avoid the stain from spreading.

Urine - to remove a urine stain off your carpet, you need to blot the stain using a clean white cloth or paper towel. If you have a shop-vac, suck it out if you can.

Otherwise, for all old carpet stains brought forth by urine from pets, do this simple solution. Combine a quarter teaspoon of liquid dish washing detergent with a cup of warm water. Then, carefully spray the solution to the affected area. Make sure that you don't use any laundry detergent or dish soap that has bleach or lanolin in it.

Once done, blot the area dry using a clean white cloth or plain white paper towels. Rinse it with warm water, extract the liquid and then re-apply the solution. Repeat this process until you can see an improvement in the pet stain.

Red wine - for this kind of stain, all you need is to suck the excess liquid either by blotting or vacuuming, then apply some white wine. Extract the liquid again and repeat the entire process until the stain comes off. Once done, rinse quickly and dry the carpet off.

Ink - old school carpet stains home remedies suggest that ink stains can be removed by using rubbing alcohol. The stronger the isopropyl content, the better. Put some alcohol on a cotton ball or a white cloth then dab carefully on the stain.

Repeat the process until no more ink residue or transfers are made on the cloth or the cotton. This may not entirely remove the stain and you still might have to employ the use of some commercial cleaning solution. Remember to rinse the affected area, extract the excess water off the carpet and dry.

We've listed just a few examples of carpet stains; there are still a lot of types out there. Having some knowledge of known homemade carpet stain removal solutions can be a big help in rescuing your carpet from permanent damage.
